something for myself

plaster, gouache, ink, gold leaf, paper, thread, gesso, graphite
I can’t decide if this is finished quite.
I can’t decide whether it’s already a step too far
(the graphite handwriting)…
and whether that means I’ll need to claw it back
by burying some of what’s visible under
more layers of white/colour/paper/ink etc.
It hasn’t even told me it’s name yet,
which is odd.
The page is from a wonderful little book
that I picked up secondhand ages ago,
called “To Please Myself Again.”
That’s all I can hear in my head,
when I think about it.
It’s taken over.
So this is to please myself.
mmmmmmmmm. I love the graphite handwriting — it personalizes, it adds a textural element … this is soothing, this is alluring, this is sensual … I’ll be interested in knowing if you call this ‘done’ or if it continues to draw your hand to it.
p.s. I HATE that I can’t right click on your art and PIN it … dammit!
sounds like a good title, and the color is wonderful great mix of cool and warm… and yummy texture..
Thank you, Caterina. I was surprised that I felt drawn to this shade of blue when I started working on this. It’s more soft and romantic than I usually go, but now I like it very much here. But texture, that’s what it’s all about for me. Layers of texture.
Ah, it’s a shame. You weren’t able to install the Pin It tool to your browser at work?
Thanks for the vote in favour of the handwriting. That’s still something I might mess with. I need to let it sit for a few days.
damn it! I wrote comment responses in my WordPress dashboard, forgetting that Disqus won’t pick them up.
Toni, Caterina – thank you, lovelies.
mmmm….. scrummy! I love the handwriting… what a serendipituous (?!) book find x
